Ctg AL MP sued over assaulting polls officer
A case has been filed against Chittagong Awami League Lawmaker Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury for allegedly assaulting an upazila election officer last Wednesday.
The case was filed with Banshkhali Police Station on Thursday night in this connection, our local correspondent reports quoting Mohammad Alamgir, officer-in-charge of the police station.
The police station received a letter on behalf of the Election Commission Secretariat on Thursday where instruction was given to record a case over the issue, the OC added.
“I have recorded a case against AL MP Mustafizur Rahman, his PS Tajul Islam, a chairman candidate in Baharchhara union, and Maulana Akhter, president of Banshkhali upazila Olama League in line with the EC’s instruction,” he said.

Mustafizur also “verbally abused” Banshkhali Upazila Election Officer Zahid Hossain at the office of the upazila nirbahi officer for not appointing the lawmaker's men as polling officials in the Union Parishad polls.
As a result the commission suspended polls to all the 14 unions of Banshkhali upazila that were to go to polls on June 4.
The lawmaker then dismissed the allegations, describing those as false and fabricated.
