Ex-MP Rana gets bail, no bar to walk out of jail
The High Court today granted bail to former Awami League lawmaker from Tangail-3 Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in a murder case clearing the way for his walk out of jail.
The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman granted him the bail in the case filed for killing Jubo League activists Shamim and Mamun in 2012.
Amanur’s lawyer Advocate Rusho Mustafa told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar for his client’s release from jail following the HC verdict.
He said Jubo League activists Shamim and Mamun were beaten to death on August 16, 2012. Mamun’s father Abdul Aziz filed the murder case with a Tangail court on July 9, 2013 against 13 people. Tangail Model Police Station recorded the case on September 21 of 2013 as per the Tangail court order.
Rana was charge sheeted in the case following confessional statement made by three other accused, advocate Rusho said.
Rana landed in jail on September 18, 2016, the advocate said.
