Banani rape indictment hearing Jul 9
The indictment hearing of sensational Banani twin rape case has been set to begin on July 9.
Judge Md Shafiul Azam of the Second Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression set the date today after accepting charges filed against five accused in the case.

The five are: prime accused Ahmed Shafat, son of the owner of Apan Jewellers, his friend Nayem Ashraf, one Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain, and bodyguard Rahmat Ali.

Earlier on June 8, Ismot Ara Ame, inspector of Women Support and Investigation Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, pressed the charges against the five accused.
Shafat and Nayem, also known as Halim, were charged with raping two university students. The three others face charges of helping them in various ways during and after the alleged incident at a city hotel on the night of March 28.

All the five are now behind bars. Of them, Shafat, Nayem, Sakif and Billal gave confessional statements before magistrates on different dates.
