2 killed in Rangamati landslide
Two people were killed and three others injured in landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Rangamati and Chattogram this morning.
Confirming the incident of Rangamati, Md Ashfaq Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandraghona Police Station, said the incident took place in Karigorpara area in the upazila around 11:30am.
The deceased were identified as Atul Barua, 52, and Sulau Marma, 42, our Rangamati correspondent reports.
Meanwhile, three people were injured as chunks of mud fell on them at Chattagram city’s Bayazid and Khulshi areas in the morning.
In Arefin Nagar of Bayezid, two injured were rescued around 10:00am by fire service officials with the help of locals, our district correspondent reports quoting Jashim Uddin, assistant director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defense.
In Khulshi’s Kusumbag Residential area, fire service rescued an injured person around 12noon from under the chunks of mud, Jashim Uddin also said.
The trio were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
The landslides happened due to continuous rain in the area since morning.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department, in its latest bulletin, forecast landslide in hilly areas of Chattogram division due to the heavy rainfall.
