Army to join in relief distribution for Rohingyas
Bangladesh Army will participate in the relief and rehabilitation work of the Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar from tomorrow, authorities said today.
Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Md Ali Hossain said the army, in cooperation with local administration, will join in the work at 12 different points.
He made the announcement at a press conference at his office this afternoon.
A total of 11 check posts have been installed at different strategic points from Ukhiya to Teknaf to keep close watch on the movement of the Rohingya people, he said.
The local administration has formed a total of 22 special mobile teams of police to make the efforts a success, he said. So far, around 5,119 Rohingyas were held while attempting to flee, he said.
He said around 85,000 families of Rohingyas will be shifted to Balukhali makeshift camp where around 14,000 sheds will be built to rehabilitate the refugees.
