10 more bodies found, death toll now 143
Ten bodies were recovered in Chittagong, Bandarban, Rangamati and Cox’s Bazar this morning as search resumed in the hilly districts, where the death toll from landslide and flash flood topped 143.
Bodies of four victims surfaced after the water of flash flood subsided in Chittagong, while two others were buried in a fresh landslide in Cox’s Bazar early today. Two missing persons were found dead in Bandarban and as many as in Rangamati.
In Cox’s Bazar, landslide buried one Md Selim, 40, and his daughter Tishu Moni, 3, in Teknaf’s Hoaykkon area around 3:00am today, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahid Hossain Siddique said.

Chittagong's Rangunia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Kamal Hossain and Chairman Ali Shah said four bodies were found this morning. After this recovery, only one more remain missing in the upazila – in flash flood.
The deceased were primarily identified as Ashish Majumder, 45, his wife Anjana Majumder, 32, their daughter Toshi Majumder, 8, and another Dilip Dey, 50.
District authorities had declared Tk 20,000 aid for affected families of the landslide and will hand out 30kg rice to them in the aftermath of their loss, the UNO said.
Porimol Chandra Kundu, assistant director of fire service in Chittagong’s Agrabad station, told The Daily Star that a specialised team of 62 has been sent to Rangamati to aid search and rescue.
In Bandarban, missing Kamarunnesa Begum, 45, and her daughter Sukhiya Begum, 12, were found under the landmass in Sadar's Lemujhiri area, said fire service officer Md Tariqul Hassan.
In Rangamati, rescuers found two unidentified bodies at Muslimpara of Rangamati Sadar Upazila around 2:00pm, Md Salah Uddin, an official of fire service unit, told our local correspondent.
A relatively brighter sky was aiding the rescue works in Rangamati – where the toll might rise. The Met office has however forecast heavy rains in the region.
