Security of Buddhist temples heightened
Bangladesh government has increased security measures of all Buddhist temples across the country in wake of the persecution of Rohingyas in Myanmar.
The decision is believed to have come following the persecution on Rohingya Muslim community in Rakhine by Myanmar military and its Buddhist supporters.
Sahely Ferdous, an assistant inspector general of the police force, told The Daily Star of this and said that the temples in Cox's Bazar will be under additional security.
As part of the measures, law enforcers have been deployed at the temples and churches across the country ahead of the Durga Puja, the police official added.
Last reported, over 400,000 Rohingyas have fled into Bangladesh and crowded its district of Cox's Bazar since August, following persecution by Myanmar military in Rakhine.
Bangladesh government's head Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she will feed the Rohingyas. But, the government has maintained that it will stay alert on security grounds.
