Jails to become correction centres: Law minister

The government is going to formulate a new law and amend existing prison rules to turn the country's jails into correction centres, the law minister said today. 

Creating sustainable and transformed legal structure is one of the prominent priorities of this government to ease the sufferings of the poor prisoners, Anisul Huq said.

He was addressing a programme organised on the occasion of National Legal Aid Day in Dhaka's Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

"We have also put emphasis on facilitating legal assistance to prisoners for defending themselves and to hasten their rehabilitation process," he added.
