Mother, 2 children burnt in Ctg cylinder blast

A woman and her two children sustained burn injuries in a gas cylinder blast in Chittagong city today.

The gas cylinder exploded at the flat of Mehedi Hasan, an official of an insurance company, in Garibullah Shah Residential area around 12noon, leaving his wife Tanjira Akhter, 35, daughter Tanjina, 13, and son Tanvir Hasan, 8, burn injured, police said.

The victims are now undergoing treatment at Burn and Plastic Surgery Department of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, reports our Chittagong staff correspondent.

Tanjira sustained 80 percent burns while Tanvir 30 percent and Tanjina sustained 20 percent burns, said S Khaled, assistant professor of the department.

The gas cylinder was brought to the house from a shop this morning and kept in bedroom of his residence on the second floor of a six-storey building, said Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence’s Deputy Assistant Director Purna Chandra Mutsuddy.
