Singapore to name orchid in honour of Hasina
An orchid will be named in honour of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Singapore Botanical Garden where she will pay a visit during her official tour there from March 11 to 14.
The PM will visit Singapore at the invitation of her Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali told reporters at a press briefing at the foreign ministry.
The premier will hold bilateral meeting with her Singapore counterpart and also attend Bangladesh-Singapore Business Forum and the Bangladesh-Singapore roundtable, the foreign minister said.
She will call on the first woman president elect of the country Halimah Yacob during her visit, he told the reporters.
During the visit, six agreements/MoUs are expected to be signed after official talks, the foreign minister said.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid will visit India from March 8 to 12 to attend the International Solar Alliance Summit in New Delhi, the foreign minister said adding that the head of state and head of government of 23 countries will participate in the solar summit.
The aim of the event is to make available solar energy at an affordable rate, create solar grids and establish solar credit mechanism.
The president will also visit Assam and Meghalaya where he spent sometime during the War of Liberation in 1971. He served as sub-sector commander of Bangladesh Liberation Force (Mujib Bahini) during the war.
From March 8 to 10, he will visit Assam, Meghalaya and from March 11 he will attend the conference in New Delhi.
During his visit, the Bangladesh president will meet the president of India, France and Sri Lanka.
