4 killed in Gazipur, Bagerhat road accidents
At least four people were killed and one injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur and Bagerhat today.
In Gazipur, three people were killed as a pick-up van hit a parked covered van from behind at Nanduain area of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 8:30 am today.
The covered van driver and his two associates died on the spot, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting police.
The deceased could not be identified immediately, said Samir Chandra Sutradhar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gazipur Metropolitan Sadar Police Station.
The covered van was parked in front of the Niribili Hotel of the area when a Mymensingh-bound pick-up van crashed into it, he added.
The front part of the pick-up van was smashed, the police official said.
Police and fire service teams rushed to the spot and recovered the body, he said.
The bodies were sent to Gazipur Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue.
In Bagerhat, a truck driver was killed as he lost control over the wheels of a Barisal-bound loaded truck and it crashed into a tree Khulna-Mawa highway’s Muldhar area of Fakirhat around 3:00am today.
The deceased driver, Kamal, was a resident of Nurnagar area of Khulna and the injured helper Shamim was hailed from Tutpara area of the district.
The Barisal-bound truck was coming from Mangla loaded with electric tools, our correspondent reports quoting Md Masud Sardar, deputy assistant director of Bagerhat fire service station.
Firefighters rescued the injured helper of the truck, Shamim, from the smashed vehicle and sent him to a local hospital, the official said.
The team managed to recovered the driver’s body after trying for four and a half hours, he added.
