Bullet from own gun kills ex-MP’s gunman
A gunman of former Awami League lawmaker Reza Ali, died today after he was wounded by a bullet allegedly fired from his own shotgun while he was cleaning it.
The deceased, Asgar Khan, 45, succumbed to his wound at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) around 12:30am, our local correspondent reports quoting police.
Asgar, a retired army person hailing from Bagerhat sadar upazila, had been working for the ex-MP for last two years.
He was wounded in his abdomen from his licensed shotgun while cleaning it at Reza Ali’s house in Dhanikhola area of Trishal on Saturday morning, Md Jakiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Trishal Police Station told the correspondent.
On information, police rushed Asgar to MMCH where he died, said the OC.
Police suspect it an accident, the OC added.
The body was sent to MMCH morgue for autopsy and it was handed over to the family members this noon, said Md Kamrul Islam, OC of Kotwali Police Station.
Contacted, Reza Ali said when the accident took place he was in sleep. Asgar used to wake up from sleep early in the morning and take a walk around his (MP’s) farm, he said.
One of my staff woke me up and informed about the incident, he added.
