State Minister for Telecom Tarana Halim summoned chief executive officers of all mobile phone operators to know about the update of call drop compensation to the customers.

A meeting will be held at the state minister’s office at 11:00am tomorrow, said senior officials of the Posts and Telecommunication division.

Tarana directed mobile phone operators in last October to improve their service quality otherwise to compensate their customers.

In January, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) made compensation for call-drop mandatory.

However, operators avoided the issue and Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) sent a letter to the operators to sit with BTRC to consult about facts and figures regarding call-drop.

Senior officials of Posts and Telecommunication division said the state minister is very concerned about customers’ sufferings and that is why she will be tough on this issue.

Earlier, Tarana also conducted different meetings with the operators on reducing call drops and improving service quality.

Referring to International Telecommunication Union (ITU), mobile operators said 3 percent call drop is moderate and they are far better than the ITU’s guideline.
