Ctg RMG worker ‘raped’ with false wedding promise
A readymade garment worker has been raped allegedly by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver for seven days promising to marry her in Sadarghat area of Chattogram city.
Moreover, the family members of the alleged rapist burnt parts of her body with the butt of a cigarette on April 8, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting police.
The family also took her signature in a blank paper to cover-up the incident, said Inspector (investigation) Ruhul Amin of Sadarghat Police Station.
The incident came to light today after police arrested six persons including the alleged rapist following a case filed by the victim in this connection last night.
The arrestees are auto-rickshaw driver Nizam Uddin, 30, his wife Tania Begum, Popi Begum, Md Liton, his wife Sonia Begum and Firoja Begum.
Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadarghat Police Station, said the victim, hailing from Cumilla, is a worker of Mir Fashion Ltd in city’s Mistripara area.
Driver Nizam developed a relationship with the girl nine months ago introducing himself as unmarried person, said the OC.
Proposing marriage to the victim, Nizam took her to a rented house in city’s Chowmuhuny area on April 1 and raped her at the house till April 7, the OC added.
Nizam’s wife Tania learnt about the illegal relationship and caught her husband along with the girl at the rented house on April 7,” police official Nezam said.
Ruhul Amin, inspector (investigation) of Sadarghat Police Station, said taking the duo at her house, Tania and three others beat the girl, chopped off her hair and burnt her body parts with cigarette butt.
They released the girl after taking her signature on a blank paper on April 8, said Inspector Ruhul Amin.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) (Kotwali) Nobel Chakma of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) said the victim was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH)’s One Stop Crisis Centre for medical test.
