Child trampled to death by elephants in Ctg

A child was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram early today.

The deceased was identified as Md Akib (4), son of Shamsul Alam, said police.

Achia Khatun, upazila nirbahi officer of Boalkhali, told our Chattogram correspondent that a group of nine people, including some family members of Akib, came under attack from a herd of wild elephants in Madham Ahalla Koroldenga area around 1:30am, while they were returning home from a religious gathering.

At one stage, Akib fell from his father's lap and an elephant trampled him to death on the spot, said Achia.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, said Md Rasel, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Boalkhali Police Station.
