China returnee student tests negative for coronavirus at Rangpur hospital
A student who returned from China and later got admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital with respiratory problems has tested negative for coronavirus today.
The principal scientific officer of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) ASM Alamgir confirmed this to The Daily Star today.
"The student had no symptom of coronavirus infection. He was just panicked; we tested samples [collected on Saturday evening] and found the result was negative," the official said.
Authorities have said they would discharge the student by tomorrow.
The student, who is from Nilphamari, returned from Anhui province in China on January 29. He was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital on February 8 with complaints of breathing troubles.
He was kept in the isolation ward of the hospital.
