CMCH doctor’s death: Wife's bail remains in force
The Supreme Court today upheld a High Court verdict that granted bail to Tanzila Haque Chowdhury Mitu in a case filed for allegedly provoking her husband Mustafa Murshed Akash, to commit suicide.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed "no order" on a petition filed by the government seeking a stay on the HC verdict.
Akash, 32, a doctor of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Chandgaon residential area in the port city on January 31. Before suicide, the physician posted a “suicide note” on his Facebook timeline.
Following the incident, Counter Terrorism unit of Chittagong Metropolitan Police arrested Mitu from her relative's house in Nandankanan area at night of January 31.
Akash's mother Jobeda Khanam filed a case on the following day accusing Mitu and five others for instigating the suicide.
The SC order means that Tanzila's bail granted by the HC will remain in force, Deputy Attorney General KM Jahid Sarwar Kazal told The Daily Star.
