A college student has been killed, struck by lightning, in Narayanganj’s Araihazar upazila.

Victim Onoy Debnath, 20, second year student at Government Safar Ali College and son of Joy Debnath, was struck around 2:00pm today during a nor’wester, our local correspondent reports.

Quoting family, Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge MA Haq said Onoy was harvesting paddy in Fatehpur when a bolt of lightning struck him. Locals took him to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

According to the government, at least 70 persons have been killed already across Bangladesh in lightning in the last two months – March and April.
