Conviction rate in women repression cases poor: CJ

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain today expressed his concern over the poor conviction rate in the cases filed under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and underscored the need for finding out the root cause.

"Arrange a workshop to find out the cause. If necessary, I will attend the programme," the chief justice came up with the call while addressing a view exchange meeting at the Supreme Court Auditorium this afternoon.

The Supreme Court and rights body Manusher Jonno Foundation jointly organised the programme.

About the conviction in rape cases, the chief justice said necessary medical test reports in this connection are not sent timely, creating scopes for acquittal.

"There will be no scope for acquittal if the medical test report with strong evidence is placed before a court timely," Hossain said.
