Graft case: BIWTA official gets 7yrs in jail

A special judge court today handed down seven years rigorous punishment to assistant account officer of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Abdus Salam Khan for misappropriating about Tk 20.59 crore of BIWTA’s provident fund.

The court also fined him Tk 41.29 crore.

The court, however, acquitted Salam’s wife Shahnaj Parvin Lovely in the case.

The court also ordered him to forfeit his 2759 sq ft flat in Baridhara, 2811 sq ft flat in Gulshan residential area, about 2975 sq ft commercial space in Topkhana road, two private cars and Tk 4.32 crore bank savings.

ACC’s Director Benajir Ahmed filed the case with Motijheel Police Station in June 2011.
