Woman ‘attempts suicide by setting fire’ in Mirpur

A woman today attempted suicide by setting herlsef on fire after pouring kerosene in Pallabi area of Mirpur this afternoon, law enforcers said.

Shahna Akhtar, 25, wife of Mohammad Rony, 33, poured kerosene on her body and then set fire on herself around 4:00pm, Dadon Fakir, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station told The Daily Star.

“I have come to know that, there had been a feud between Shahana and her husband. The suicide attempt might be an aftermath of the dispute, the OC said.   

Earlier, Rony claimed that his wife suffered burn injuries from a fire that broke out from a gas pipe leak. However, later, the law enforcers quizzed the “truth” out of him.

Police said they found a bottle that could have contained kerosene at scene.
