Couple found dead at Nilphamari farmhouse
A couple was found dead with their throats slit at a farmhouse in Nilphamari’s Syedpur upazila this morning.
The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 52, and his wife Salma Khatun, hailing from Khatta Madhupur union in the upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting police.
Four to five armed assailants swooped on the couple around 2:30am when they were sleeping and stabbed the duo indiscriminately, leaving them dead on the spot, said Shahjahan Pasha, officer-in-charge of Syedpur Police Station.
Meanwhile, Abdur Razzak, a worker at the farmhouse, also sustained critical stab injuries when he tried to save the couple, said the OC.
Razzak has been admitted to Syedpur 100-bed Hospital in critical condition.
After the murders were reported, police recovered the bodies this morning, the police official said.
“We have visited the scene and collected primary evidence. Hopefully the killers will be brought to book soon,” Shahjahan Pasha added.
The couple used to raise cattle and other livestock leasing land. Locals speculated that they might have been killed following land-related feud.
