Child dies of dengue in Mymensingh
A five-year-old boy died of mosquito-borne disease dengue in Mymensingh yesterday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Jarif, son of Mohammad Arif hailed from Mymensingh city’s Shikarikanda area.
Jarif was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in a critical condition from a Gazipur hospital around 5:10pm yesterday, said Dr AB Md Shamsuzzaman, assistant director of MMCH.
He died half an hour after his admission to the hospital, the MMCH assistant director said.
Jarif was living in Gazipur district with his parents. After contracting dengue, he was admitted to the hospital in Gazipur but the hospital authorities suggested his parents to shift him to a hospital with ICU facilities, said the assistant director.
Later, he was shifted to the MMCH where he died later.
With him, a total of four persons died of dengue at MMCH this year.
According to Director General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of patients infected with dengue fever cames to 61,038 after 1,446 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country till 8am yesterday.
The total number of dengue patients was 10,148 last year.
Meanwhile, 114 patients died of dengue in the country this year till yesterday. The official number, however, is 47.
