'Drug peddler' killed in Jessore 'gunfight'

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight between two rival gangs of drug dealers  in Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore early today.

The deceased has been identified as Shahidul Islam, 36, son of Nur Islam from Buikara village of the upazila, Sheikh Gani Mia, officer-in-charge (OC) of Abhaynagar Police Station told our Benapole correspondent.

Police went to the spot based on information that two groups of drug peddlers had engaged in a gunfight in Chengutia area of Nayapara, the OC said.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers the drug peddlers fled the spot, the police official said.

'Yaba couple' captured

Later, police recovered the bullet hit body of Shahidul from there.

Police also recovered a pipe gun, two rounds of bullets, 120 pieces of yaba tablets from the spot, he said.
