‘Drug peddler’ killed in Rajshahi police firing
An alleged drug peddler was killed when police, who came under a machete attack, opened fire in Rajshahi city early today.
Afzal Hossain, in his early 30s, was shot after he injured three policemen with the sharp weapon during a raid at his house in Dasmari Satbaria area of the city, our Rajshahi correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-Charge of Motihar Police Station Humayun Kabir.
Afzal was declared dead after being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. His body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Assistant Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Sushanto Chandra Roy, who led the raid, is among the three injured policemen. They were admitted to the police lines hospital, the OC said.
In the raid conducted around 2:00am, Afzal swooped on the policemen with a machete soon after they reached the house, prompting the law enforcers to fire in retaliation.
Afzal was an accused in a case filed with Motihar Police Station for drug trade.
