Tailbacks in Comilla, Munshiganj highways
Eid holidaymakers are suffering on their way home due to tailbacks on the highways in Comilla and Munshiganj today.
In Comilla, three to four kilometres long tailback has formed on the highway, staring from the toll plaza on Meghna-Gomati bridge and up to Hasanpur area near Daudkandi, with several hundred vehicles waiting in line for the heavy rush of the traffic to ease, reports our Comilla correspondent.
However, there is very slow vehicular movement and the tailback is likely to linger, he added.
In Munshiganj, over five hundred vehicles are waiting in line to cross the ferry at Shimulia ferry ghat, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Ferry movement was halted for around six hours till 5:00am today after the pontoon plate at ghat number-3 got displaced by strong currents in the Padma river, causing the vehicles-- including over 300 trucks carrying sacrificial animals -- to stand still. Although the ferry became operational again since this morning after repair works were done, the movement is very slow and the tailback is likely to linger for a while, he said.
Many home-bound people are using alternative means, such as launches and speed boats, to avoid traffic congestion and reach their destinations sooner, he added.
In Tangail, a normal vehicular movement was seen on Dhaka-Tangail Highway up to the toll plaza at the east end of Bangabandhu Multipurpose Bridge on the river Jamuna, reports our correspondent at 11:30am.
