Ex-BCL leader Arif held for ‘raping’ 6 Shariatpur women
Sacked Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Arif Hossain Howlader was arrested today for allegedly raping six women in Bhedarganj upazila of Shariatpur and releasing the rape scenes on the internet.
Police arrested Ariful, who went into hiding since November, from Saikka Bridge area near Jointika river in Gosairhat upazila of the district around 4:30pm, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Gosairhat Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Thander Khairul Alam told the daily that Arif was arrested after tracking his mobile phone.
Arif, former general secretary of Narayanpur union unit BCL, allegedly installed hidden camera in female washroom and took footage of women taking bath, the ASP told the daily.
Then, he raped the six women after blackmailing them with the video clips and later he uploaded the rape scenes on the internet.
The videos went viral on the cell phones of the villagers since October 15.
One of the victims filed a case against Arif with Bhedarganj Police Station under Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Act on November 11.
On the same day, Arif was suspended from BCL.
