Formulate guideline for judges’ recruitment: SCBA
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) today demanded that the government formulate a specific guideline in line with the constitution for recruitment of judges in both the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court.
There is no alternative to the formulation of the guideline in order to ensure transparency and neutrality in the appointment of the SC judges, SCBA President Advocate Zainul Abedin said while speaking at a press conference organised by the SCBA at its auditorium.
He said it is indispensable to appoint meritorious, honest, competent and principled persons as SC judges in order to ensure the independence of the judiciary and to establish rule of law, but the government is not appointing judges by formulating guideline in line with the constitutional provisions and SC directives.
The Law Minister Anisul Huq has recently announced that new judges will be appointed to the Appellate and High Court Divisions, but he did not say anything about formulating guideline to recruit the judges, the SCBA president said.
Advocate Zainul said the government can formulate the guideline in seven days if it is sincere.
SCBA Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, among others, spoke at the press conference.
