6 held over Ashulia gang rape

Six people were arrested on charge of raping a 17-year-old girl in Ashulia of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, early today.  

The arrests were made after the victim filed a case with Ashulia Police Station, saying that the accused called her to the residence of one Azimuddin in Tayabpur area promising her a job.

When she reached there, four of them raped her while two others assisted them, report our correspondent from Savar quoting police.

After the case was filed, police arrested Azimuddin, 42, Akhbar Hossain, 23, Shanto, 21, Mahid, 23, Imran, 20 and Robin, 24, said Inspector Ziaul Islam of Ashulia Police Station.

Among the arrestees, gang rape charge was brought against Akhbar, Shanto, Mahid and Imran while Azimuddin and Robin were held for assisting the rapists, said the police official.

Interrogation of the accused is going on and the victim is sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for examination, he added.
