Over 8kgs gold seized from Chattogram airport
Customs officials arrested a passenger of an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines along with 70 gold bars, weighing 8.2 kilogrammes, from Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport this morning
The market price of the gold is Tk 3.5 crore, our local correspondent reports quoting Riadul Islam, deputy commissioner (DC) of Chattogram Customs House.
Based on a tip-off, customs officials searched the luggage of the Akhtaruzzaman Khan, 32, around 11:30am and found the gold bars hidden inside four charger lights, Riadul Islam said.
Akhtaruzzaman, hailed from Chattogram’s Fatikchhari upazila, returned from Abu Dhabi with the flight of the national carrier, the DC said.
Customs officials have handed the arrestee over to Patenga Police Station. A case was filed with the police station in this connection, the DC added.
