‘Govt wants to keep BNP away from polls’
BNP today alleged that the government has imprisoned their Chairperson Khaleda Zia to keep BNP away from participating in the upcoming national election.
“Those who are thinking of holding an election with Khaleda Zia behind bars are living in a fools paradise,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party’s secretary general, said.
Fakhrul was speaking at a discussion held at Jatiya Press Club this morning, organised by a separate faction of Jatiya Party.
“Now, all forms of judicial laws are being violated, just to keep Khaleda Zia behind bars,” he alleged. “Khaleda Zia was sentenced to jail, she was supposed to be given bail. Even there, the government is interfering. The judiciary is being tampered with.”
Fakhrul also pulled up the Election Commission, saying that it is now “serving the agenda of the government.” He said, “this Election Commission has been placed to reinstate Awami League in power”.
