Govt trying to shift blame of foreign national murder: Fakhrul

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today claimed that the government is trying to shift the blame for the murder of Italian national Cesare Tavella in Dhaka to others.

The statement came in the wake of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comment indicating that the murder might have been committed by BNP or Jamaat. She was addressing a press conference at Bangladesh UN Permanent Mission in New York on Tuesday.

Fakhrul demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers. The government has failed to provide security to foreign nationals in the country, he added.

The BNP leader made the comment at the Nayapaltan party office around noon during an informal talk with reporters. This was the first time Fakhrul had gone to the party office since he was released from jail on bail on July 14. He was arrested from Jatiya Press Club on January 6. 

At the press conference, Hasina said the government is taking ample measures to contain terrorism and militancy. But BNP-Jamaat alliance denied taking part in the election and chose the path of killing people. BNP and Jamaat started politics of killing from February 2013 and they continued it till 2014.

However, Hasina also said, some stray incidents always happen - not only in Bangladesh but everywhere in the world.
