Green Line defies court order on compensating Russel
Green Line Paribahan did not comply with the High Court order that asked the company to give Tk 5 lakh to Russel Sarker, who lost his leg after one of its buses ran him over in April last year.
The Paribahan was directed to give the money by July 7 and to submit a compliance report to this court today.
The bus service company is supposed to give more Tk 45 lakh to Russel in Tk 5 lakh installment per month but the company did not pay any installment after the HC passed the order on June 25.
Meanwhile, Green Line's lawyer Advocate Md Ozi Ullah today withdrew himself as a lawyer of the private bus service company as the company did not communicate him about moving the case on behalf of the company.
The High Court today allowed the lawyer to withdraw himself as a counsel for Green Line Paribahan.
On April 4 last year, Russel, 26, a car driver, lost his leg from below the knee after he was knocked down by a Green Line bus near Mayor Hanif Flyover. An altercation broke out between Russel and the bus driver over rear-ending his car. As Russel chased the bus, the bus driver ran him over.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader fixed July 21 for passing further order on this issue.
Earlier in the day, writ petitioner's lawyer advocate Khandakar Shamsul Haque Reza told in a statement to the HC saying that Russel Sarker has got total Tk 8 lakh for his treatment and compensation from Green Line.
On June 25, the HC warned Green Line Paribahan, saying the court will see how the government facilitates the transport company if it resorts to unscrupulous means to violate the order over compensating Russel Sarker.
“You can enforce strike or hartal; whatever you wish. But, our order must be implemented. The compensation will have to be paid in installments to him [Russel]. We will have to take other measures if our order is violated,” the court said.
