Heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in Chattogram division, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in a forecast today.

Due to active monsoon, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at some places in Barishal and Chattogram divisions during the next 24 hours commencing 10:00am today, according to the met office bulletin.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Dhaka, Khulna, Sylhet divisions and at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over southern part of the country.

Landslide may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chattogram division due to the rainfall, the bulletin further added.

At least 127 people were killed in a massive landslide in Chattogram in 2007 while another landslide in 2017 claimed at least 167 lives in greater Chattogram.
