Rain threatens landslides in Chattogram
Heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in Chattogram division, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in a forecast today.
Under the influence of the depression over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining area, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at some places in Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions during the next 24 hours commencing 12noon today, according to the met office bulletin.
Due to the depression, light to moderate rainfall may take place across the country, including Dhaka, Rangpur and Rajshahi till early tomorrow while heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in coastal districts of Chattogram, Barishal and Khulna divisions, Abul Kalam Mollik, an official of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told The Daily Star.
“Rainfall is likely to continue across the country till early tomorrow,” said the official.
The met office recorded highest 291 mm rain in Teknaf while 24 mm in Dhaka in the last 24 hours as of 6:00am today, the official added.
