HC clears way for Bar Council election
The High Court today cleared the way for holding election to Bangladesh Bar Council on May 14.
The High Court bench of Justice Zinat Ara and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order dropping a writ petition from its hearing list.
The bench said that the writ petitioner is so late for moving the petition as the election is scheduled to be held on May 14.
Writ petitioner Eunus Ali Akond told The Daily Star that he will move the petition before another High Court bench on Sunday.
Earlier on March 14, advocate Eunus, a Supreme Court lawyer, submitted the petition challenging legality of the schedule announced by the council, the highest body for regulating the country's lawyers.
In the petition, he said there are anomalies in the list of the council’s existing voters.
The petitioner also stated that some candidates are contesting the election under white and blue panels, which is a violation of the constitution.
