HC summons AC land over Dinajpur lawyer’s punishment
The High Court today summoned the assistant commissioner (land) of Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram to appear before it on December 27, for sentencing a lawyer through a mobile court in Dinajpur.
Biroda Rani Roy, the assistant commissioner (land) of Bhurungamari, will have to appear before the HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Ganiand Justice KM Kamrul Kaderon December 27 to explain her role in the incident.
Biroda on December 13 fined advocate Nirod Bihari Roy, 60, a member of the Dinajpur Bar Association, Tk 500 and in default she sentenced him to one day jail over a feud regarding dealing a case at her office in Birganj. The incident at the Upazila Land Office of Birganj has triggered widespread rage among the lawyers in Dinajpur.
Biroda was later transferred to Bhurungamari.
She was stand-released on December 13 after punishing the senior lawyer through a mobile court over a trifling matter a day before.
A report was published on different newspapers on the incident including a LawyersClubBangladesh.com.
Today, Supreme Court lawyer Syed Mohidul Kabir and advocate Kazi Helal Uddin placed the news report before the HC bench for necessary order.
The HC also ordered advocate Nirod Bihari and LawyersClubBangladesh.com editor Dr Bodrul Hasan Kochi to appear before it on December 27.
