Human chain formed protesting ‘journalist assault’ by cops
Journalists today formed a human chain in front of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) office in the capital protesting assault on two journalists by police at Nayapaltan.
Arman Kaiser and Manik, journalist and cameraman of a private television channel respectively, allegedly came under attack yesterday at Nayapaltan where BNP Dhaka city South unit brought out a procession demanding release of its party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Over 100 journalists from different media houses formed the human chain in front of the DMP office around noon but they ended it after 15 minutes on request of Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP (media).
Later, they submitted a four-point memoranda to DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia, saying that Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Zone Anwar Hossain and his force assaulted the two journalists.
The demands include punishment of DC Anwar Hossain and his force and safety of journalists.
Crime Reporters' Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) Former General Secretary Kamruzzaman Khan, its senior members Dipu Sarowar and Assaduzaman Shimul and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Former General Secretary Morsalin Nomani were present among others.
