Police arrested an accused in a human trafficking case from Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar early today.

The arrestee, Ekramul Huq Prakash Jewel is an accused in a case filed with Pekua Police Station for attempting to traffic 67 Rohingya people to Malaysia through waterways from Karimdad Mia Chowdhury Ghat on May 17, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent quoting Jakir Hosen Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.

Ekramul has around six human-trafficking cases filed against him with different police stations, the OC said.

“He has been operating human-trafficking business on the coast of Cox’s Bazar for a while,” the police official said.
