ICT-1 gets new judge
The government today appointed Justice Amir Hossain, a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, as a member of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 dealing the cases filed in connection with the crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
Justice Amir Hossain replaced Justice Md Shohrowardi who was sent back to his original workplace at the High Court from the ICT-1 yesterday, Law Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque Dulal told The Daily Star.
He said the government appointed Justice Amir Hossain after the SC sent a proposal to the law ministry in this regard.
The law secretary, however, could not say when and who will be appointed chairman of the ICT-1 though the tribunal reached an impasse since July 13 when its chairman, Justice Anwarul Haque, passed away.
The president and the government will decide about appointing the ICT-1 chairman, Zahirul added.
