An Indian businessman died after falling from a five-storey building in Magura Sadar upazila today while trying to flee confinement, police said.

The deceased was identified as Gobinda Bhattacharya, 32, hailing from Madhyagram village of North 24-Pargana district of West Bengal in India who came to Bangladesh on business purposes on January 23, our Jhenidah correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-Charge of Magura Sadar Police Station Ilias Hossain.

Gobinda came to Bangladesh on January 23 on some business purposes to meet one Sarfaraj Newaj Jony in Magura, the official said.

Gobinda was to collect a due of Tk 8 lakh from Sarfaraj, who allegedly confined him to a room in the building after denying the dues on January 24, Ilias Hossain said.

He fell from the rooftop of the five-storey building around 7:30am while he was trying to flee the confinement, the official said.

Locals rushed him to Magura Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Sarfaraj is being quizzed in this connection under police custody, the OC added.
