Coast Guard personnel have arrested 12 Indian fishermen for illegally entering into the maritime boundary of Bangladesh in the Bay of Bengal.

The fishermen were held from an Indian fishing boat ‘Sudip’ during a routine patrol of the coast guards on Friday night, reports our Bagerhat correspondent quoting officials.

Later, they were placed in custody of Mongla Police Station this noon, Jahangir Alam, a sub-inspector of the station, told The Daily Star.

The coast guard has filed a case against the arrestees in this connection with the station, and they will be produced before court after completing due procedures, SI Jahangir added.

The fish from the boat were auctioned off and sold for Tk 52,000, said Nayan Kumar, deputy commissioner (land) of Mongla upazila.
