Jailing ex-civil surgeon: Laxmipur ADC made OSD
Laxmipur Additional Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Murshidul Islam has been made officer on special duty (OSD) over the incident of sentencing a former acting civil surgeon through a mobile court.
The ADC has been attached to the Ministry Of Public Administration, a circular of the ministry said this evening.
Meanwhile, a Laxmipur court granted permanent bail to former civil surgeon Salah Uddin Sharif, who was sent to jail for three months by the mobile court following a trifling matter yesterday.
Additional District Magistrate Meer Shawkat Hossain granted the bail on a bond of Tk 5,000, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting Sharif’s lawyer Russel Mahmud Bhuiyan alias Manna.
Earlier in the day, the High Court summoned the ADC and Laxmipur Sadar Executive Magistrate Nuruzzaman to appear before it on December 13 for explaining their conducts about the incident.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities of the government to explain why sentencing the former civil surgeon by a mobile court should not be declared illegal.
The High Court bench of Justice Quazi Reza-ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by the Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Hassan MS Azim on the basis of The Daily Star report on the incident.
A mobile court yesterday sentenced former acting civil surgeon Salahuddin Sharif of Laxmipur to three months in prison after a brawl between him and the ADC (general).
Witnesses and officials said Murshidul and Salahuddin got engaged in a noisy argument at Kakoli Kindergarten School in the town, where they went to pick up their son and grandson yesterday morning.
The argument started over why one of them did not let the other pass through the narrow entrance of the school first. They engaged in a scuffle at some point in the course of the incident.
Later, a mobile court conducted by Laxmipur sadar Executive Magistrate Nuruzzaman at deputy commissioner's office sentenced Salahuddin and police sent him to jail.
