Japan offers $4mn aid to Rohingyas
Japan will provide US $4 million as emergency grant aid for the hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the northern part of Rakhine State of Myanmar.
Of the total grant, diplomatic sources said US $3 million is for the forcible displaced Myanmar nationals in Bangladesh, popularly known as Rohingya Muslims, and remaining US$1 million for internally displaced people in Rakhine.
Nearly half a million Rohingya Muslim minority fled to Bangladesh since the military launched an ethnic cleansing on August 25.
"On September 26, the Government of Japan decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of 4 million US dollars, through agencies including International Organizations, for the people in Myanmar and Bangladesh affected by the attacks carried out against the security forces on August 25 and subsequent destabilization of the situation in the northern part of Rakhine State, Republic of the Union of Myanmar," Japan said.
"This Emergency Grant Aid is to provide humanitarian assistance such as provision of water, sanitary and non-food items in Myanmar and provision of shelters, non-food items, water, sanitary and child protection in Bangladesh," according to a press release available in the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Earlier, on March 28, the Government of Japan extend emergency grant aid of 2 million US dollars to newly arrived displaced persons in Bangladesh, who were affected by the destabilised situation in northern Rakhine State, Myanmar.
Japan assures Bangladesh of its support
Meanwhile UNB adds: Japan today assured Bangladesh of its support to address the issue of Rohingya.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam made the disclosure in a Tweet message after a breakfast meeting with the Visiting Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii.

Horii also praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government, added the junior minister.
The breakfast meeting was held at a state guest house in capital this morning.
Earlier in the day, Iwao Horii, who visited Myanmar on September 21-23, arrived in Dhaka to discuss Rohingya issue with Bangladesh counterpart.
The visit is a follow-up to the bilateral meeting of Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono on the sidelines of the UNGA on September 18.
