Japan, Bangladesh discuss maritime security issue
Bangladesh and Japan have recently discussed the issues of maritime security and marine environment protection and will undertake an action plan in light of the discussion.
The two countries reached the decision during the second Coast Guard Global Summit that began in Tokyo, the capital of Japan on November 19, said a press release of the Coast Guard.
Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard Rear Admiral M Ashraful Haq recently joined the four-day summit jointly organised by Japan Coast Guard and Nippon Foundation.
During the summit, the coastguard chief paid a courtesy call on his Japanese counterpart and discussed several bilateral issues between the countries, the release said.
He expressed his hope that the bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries will be strengthened through the summit, according to the release.
Japan government with its own sponsorship is now building a total of 24 ultramodern boats for Bangladesh Coast Guard which is the outcome of good relations of the two countries.
