High Court rejects Khaleda’s bail again
The High Court today rejected a petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking bail on health and humanitarian grounds in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
The court passed the rejection order based on a report by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) which said it is possible to provide advanced treatment for Khaleda Zia at BSMMU.
The HC said that the report prepared by a seven-member medical board of BSMMU has stated that Khaleda did not give her consent to get advanced treatment.
Saying that a convicted accused is given treatment under the provision of the jail code, the court added that it will be the same for Khaleda Zia as she is a convicted accused in custody. She cannot recieve treatment beyond the jail code as per her wishes.
The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hasan and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the order after hearing the bail petition.
Khaleda has been ailing from different health complications including diabetes, hypertension, asthma and arthritis. Her diabetes, hypertension and asthma are now under control, the judge said citing the report.
BSMMU submitted the report on Khaleda's medical treatment to the HC as per its earlier order.
