Suspected robber killed in Kushtia 'gunfight': police
A suspected robber, who was an accused in at least nine cases, was killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Kushtia's Sadar upazila early today.
The deceased was identified as Parvez Khan, 33, of Rajarhat area in Kushtia town, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting police.
Parvez who was arrested yesterday afternoon was taken to Shalda village to recover firearms, Officer-in Charge of Kushtia Model Police Station Golam Mostofa was quoted as saying.
When they went to the spot, members of Parvez's group opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to fire back triggering a gunfight, the OC said.
At one stage, Parvez tried to flee the police van but suffered bullet injuries when he came in line of the fire, the police official said.
He was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, the official added.
A pistol, three rounds of bullets and one sharp weapon among other materials were recovered from spot.
A relative of the deceased seeking anonymity said police picked up Parvez yesterday morning saying that they would quiz him.
