Man, who runs for justice for Rupa, vows to keep running
Mirza Shahjahan, who started running to realise justice for law student Rupa Khatun murder in Tangail, today vowed to continue such protest until his death.
After hearing the court judgment, Shahjahan expressed his satisfaction and took the vow to continue such protest until his death.
Earlier in the day, a Tangail court awarded death penalty to four transport workers in a case filed for raping and killing Rupa in a moving bus in Tangail in August last year.
As part of protest against the brutal killing incident of Rupa, Shajahan, started running on the street for 10 kilometers in Tangail town every Wednesday from September 6 last year demanding capital punishment of the killers.
Shahjahan, a 65-year-old freedom fighter, hanging a placard on his back demanding capital punishment of the killers of Rupa appeared the court premises while it was delivering the much-talked-about verdict.
The court has ensured exemplary punishment against the rapists and killers of Rupa. Many culprits of the similar cases are still unpunished across the country, Shajahan said.
"I have decided to continue my run demanding justice for victims and their families of such other brutal incidents that are being committed unabatedly," he said.
Rupa's murder after rape in a moving bus caused a huge uproar in the social media after her body was recovered from Tangail-Mymensingh road in Madhupur upazila in August 25 last year.
