"Martyrs’ souls will now rest in peace" (video)

Abdul Hamid Mia remembers Salauddin Quader Chowdhury “very well,” back from the days of the battlefield of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

“I remember him (SQ Chowdhury) very well, he was a notorious member of the anti-liberation force,” said the veteran freedom fighter while talking to The Daily Star.

“We, the nation will be glad if his death verdict is executed immediately,” he said. “His judgment will have brought peace to the souls of resting martyrs”.

The Daily Star has talked to people from separate quarters of life after the Supreme Court upheld the war criminal’s death penalty yesterday and found similar opinion.

Even a rickshawpuller says that all convicted war criminals should be hanged via the legal process.

A group of students said the death sentence of the convicted war criminal proves that nobody is above of law. They also thanked the government for bringing the war criminals to trial.

However, a quarter of people were not keen to make any comments over the verdict.
