Math Olympiad: Final regional round begins

The final round of regional Math Olympiad comprising the students of four districts began at Dhaka Residential Model School and College this morning.

Some 3,500 students from Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Narsingdi and Gazipur districts are participating in the day-long programme.

A cultural programme and prize distribution ceremony will be held this evening marking the Math Olympiad programme.

A total of 23 regional round competitions have taken place so far.

The winners of these 24 regional round competitions will contest in the final phase scheduled to be held on February 12 and 13.

Addressing today’s programme, Olympiad committee member Prof Md Kaykobad said, “Bangladesh is now organising Math Olympiad in larger scale than India. Such programmes should be arranged more frequently in order to attract students towards science.”

Brig Gen Md Abdul Hannan, principal of the host college, also addressed the programme.

Olympiad committee President Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury and Associate Editor Abdul Kaiyum of Bangla daily Prothom Alo were among others present at the programme.
